Mayor Pro Tem Liz Johnson is serving her sixth, consecutive four-year term on the Morrisville Town Council. During her many years of public service, Morrisville Mayor Pro Tem Liz Johnson has effectively advocated on behalf of Morrisville residents and is recognized as a fair, open minded, and balanced leader. Liz has a proven record of delivering positive change resulting in a more inclusive, connected, and innovative Morrisville.
Prior to her public service in the Town of Morrisville, Mayor Pro Tem Johnson had experienced two distinct careers. First as an educator, teaching 2nd grade, and then as an IBM Software Developer and Systems Engineer. Both of these experiences helped her perfect important skills she uses each day. Her ability to share knowledge and empower others, as well as her ability to problem solve and connect people to the resources they need, make her successful in the work she does on behalf of the residents of Morrisville.
Liz’s demonstrated commitment to fiscal responsibility and accountability has led to Morrisville’s sustained AAA municipal bond rating. She has delivered on the development and implementation of comprehensive plans that manage growth while addressing infrastructure issues like transportation. Liz championed Morrisville’s first greenway system and continues to advocate for the expansion of parks, greenways, and open space. She has consistently represented Morrisville’s interests to county and state decision makers on issues critical to the town, such as the establishment of new public schools for Morrisville’s youth. Liz Johnson will build upon these successes, leverage her extensive experience, and garner the community’s input in her work to continue to make Morrisville a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
Mayor Pro Tem Johnson currently serves on the North Carolina League of Municipalities Board of Trustees, is the Morrisville representative to Jordan Lake One Water, and is the Immediate Past President of the North Carolina Women in Municipal Government.
Liz’s public service includes her work as a founding member of the Morrisville Community Fund, the first philanthropic organization in Morrisville, and she currently serves as President of the Board of Directors. The Morrisville Community Fund awards grants annually to non-profits serving Morrisville families. Liz is a founding member of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) Raleigh-Durham Affiliate and serves as Chair. Under Liz’s leadership, the Affiliate has raised $3million to advance research for early detection and treatment options for pancreatic cancer.
Liz, her husband Kevin of 38 years and two daughters moved to Morrisville in 1997. Her oldest daughter works for the U.S. Department of Energy in the Water Power Technologies Office advancing renewable hydropower energy and her youngest daughter is Operations Director for United States Representative Jennifer Wexton. Liz’s husband recently retired after 40 years with IBM Global Services as a Services Delivery Executive. Liz is a graduate of the College of Mount Saint Vincent with a BA in Mathematics & Elementary Education.
Liz's public service extends beyond her role as Mayor Pro Tem. Her commitment and compassion for others is evident in all she does.
